The thing that hurts us the most is the thing that the Lord wants us to give. Does it hurt to give money? Then that is the thing the Lord wants you to give. Is it your time with someone you don’t like? Well, that is where He wants you to give. For me, it’s submission, surrender and abandon.
You see, I don’t like to submit to my husband, so the Lord will bring about situations where I either submit in reverence to Christ and trust Him wholeheartedly, or I can chose to do it kicking and screaming, or I can tangle my husband up in my web’s of guilt and condemnation. Beware! Fear the Lord, because what you measure will be measured back to you! Luke 6:37-38
We all have a time to give cheerfully and we do so with great joy in the Lord. We don’t even think of how much was poured out on those whom the Lord brought in our path.
Paul said to his fellow brother’s: When I came to you you gave with such enthusiasm, you would have taken out your own eye for me, what happened? What turned your heart away from me?
When times of trouble fall on you and it seems like everyone has fled from you, that is where you pull out your weights and measures. You begin weighing everything you did for that person, or that family, even that church you so diligently served, and your heart becomes hardened. That’s why Jesus says give without interest. Give without expecting anything in return. I’m not talking about only money, I am talking about doing good and loving those you would rather not! Give where no one knows that you are giving. Give where no one will praise you, or even thank you. Remember what God gave to us. He gave His Son for a Ransom for our sins. He gave us His Holy Spirit to enable us to do His will. Ask and you shall receive. Ask for the Gift of Love, God’s Love, because it is absolutely impossible to love on your own. Phil.3 Jesus can weave something very beautiful out of every situation when you place your hope in Him, who is able to do immeasurably more than you can ask or imagine!
Jesus says in Luke 6:27:
"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
A disciple serves where Jesus places him, and he serves with a joyful heart because the Joy of the Lord is his strength. He does not lose heart although to the world he is wasting away, but inwardly he is being renewed day by day. For his light and momentary troubles are achieving an eternal glory that far outweighs them all!.
